Project Vision

Component 1: Increased capacity of communities, including women, youth and other minority groups on sustainable resources management and climate smart agriculture

These activities focus on carrying out the training and providing technical support to women, youth and minority groups involved in sustainable agricultural.

Specifically, the firm/contractor is responsible for-

  • Developing training modules for trainers (for Training for Trainers) on sustainable resources management, smart climate agriculture practices, locally led approaches to climate adaptation.
  • Rolling out the train of trainers and module engaging agriculture extension workers and conservation officers.
  • Supporting roll out of training and a package of technical support and mentoring at the community level in selected provinces and communities in Vanua Levu and Viti Levu.

Component 2: Establishing a Value-Adding Agri-Business Model (SME) at Community Level.

These activities aim to pilot and deliver a comprehensive “Farm to Value Adding” model, including food processing training and small-scale machinery and facilities, specifically designed for women’s groups in the rural areas where market access for fresh produce is limited. This component will support both a targeted pilot and the development of a proposed model for future support.

Given the relevant experience of MoAW the “Farm to Value Adding” pilot by choosing a particular product that would also serve to decrease the reliance on wheat imports in Fiji and enhance the countries’ food security. A broader program of support would then be developed based on lessons from the pilot and a review of other value-adding opportunities.

  • Undertaking Farm to Value adding pilot, including:
    • Selection and assessment of communities
    • Development of Training Package (Business Management, Financial Literacy, Risk Analysis, Food Safety Production etc)
    • Roll out of training at community level
    • Provide a Farm Supply Plan
    • Procurement and installation of value-adding machines (root crops flour)
    • Continuous technical support and mentoring over 6 months period.
    • Document lessons from pilot process to inform broader ‘Farm to Value Adding’ model
  • Mapping other potential value-adding agri-business opportunities in Fiji: this will include similar support in other areas, including relevant experiences, challenges and opportunities on other potential agribusiness opportunities.
  • Develop Guidelines for roll out of an inclusive and comprehensive “Farm to Value Adding’ model.
