Preventing infections in young infants with azithromycin in labour (Bulabula maipei) was a a randomized placebo controlled two arm trial of a single 2g dose of azithromycin administered to women who were admitted to Colonial War Memorial Hospital for delivery of their baby.

The Bulabula MaiPei clinical trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of a single dose of azithromycin in labour in reducing the incidence of maternal and infant skin and soft tissue infections(SSTIs) and other infections and the impact on bacterial carriage.

The project targeted an estimated 2, 110 mother/infant pairs.
